Today, at the UNHQ in New York, the UN Secretary-General asked the international community to PREVENT rather than REACT genocide as the crime does not happen overnight.
Since the end of World War II, the international community has failed to prevent the crime of Genocide (Rwanda, Srebrenica).
The UN Secretary-General underlined that 149 States have ratified or acceded to the Genocide Convention; 45 Member States have not become parties to it. He closed his speech by remarking that “Preventing and punishing genocide is the duty, the responsibility, and the obligation of the entire international community.”
